넷플릭스 브리저튼으로 영어공부 simpered and minced

넷플릭스 브리저튼 1화에 나온 영어 표현입니다. 

merely- 단지,

simper - 바보같이 멍청하게 웃다. 

신데렐라에서 언니들이 웃을 법한 그낌, 가식적이면서 티나는 그런 웃음

여기서 말하는 바보같은게 stupid 같은 느낌이 아니라 silly의 느낌 (여기서 포인트는 stupid 랑 silly랑은 다른 느낌이다. stupid는 진짜 멍청한 거고 silly는 보통 상식이 없을 때 쓴다. stupid는 모욕이 될 수 있지만 , silly는 모욕이되는 경우는 없다. )

simper를 영영사전을 본다면 

1. to smile in a silly or annoying way

minced (부자연스럽게 고상한 척 하며) 짧게 빠른 걸음을 걷다

우스꽝스럽게 종종걸음걷는 느낌

예시 He minced over to serve us.

 

전체적으로 브리저튼 이 장면에서 이 말을 condescend의 느낌으로 썼다.

condescend뜻은  '남들을 나보다 낮추는', 혹은 '자신을 낮추는 '뜻이있다.

여기서 주인공이 자신을 낮춰서 자신이 여왕앞에서 다른 사람들이 하듯이  simper , mince 했다고 표현했다.

Mince 를 동작으로 보내자면 위의 영상같은 느낌일 수 있겠다.

넷플릭스 번역에서는 의역으로 '굉장한 명예였지'라고했지만

distinction에는 명예라는 뜻은 사실 없습니다.

distinction은 주요 의미는 '차이'라는 뜻인데,

'특별함','뛰어남'이란 뜻도있어요 !

이 대사에서는 

맞아, 굉장히 특별하게 너를 알아봐줬지라는 의미에서 distinction을 이해하면 될 거 같습니다.
